Tea Dances: "What are you?"

This afternoon, two of the women from our cast, Sarah Chien and Allegra Romita, will perform their solos back to back at Jody Sperling's Sunday afternoon works in progress series, Tea Dance.

You may remember our thoughts and process regarding judgements based on appearance with Sarah's series of blog posts last Fall called "My Mixed Ass." Check out her journey and thoughts on identity here, here and here.

When we brought in a second cast, Allegra, who is not of mixed race but also had similar experiences regarding the guessing game of her identity, it only made sense that they would both dance the same role.

In another composition study, we used Sarah's solo as a score - that is the ideas, the spatial pathways, and the movement phrases - but created a new solo based specifically on Allegra's personal experiences. Today we will show them back to back, illustrating the fluidity of identity and the absurdity of judging people based on their look.

Will you join us for tea today??
